UPDATE 9/13/2018

Look who’s doing great after his rostral hemimandibulectomy surgery! Katahdin’s foster family has been calling him Taco for a few months and we think the name fits him great and have officially changed his name! Taco had a locally invasive gingival mass removed a few weeks ago, along with a portion of his jawbone and surrounding teeth. He’s back to his normal self and eating his dry food again just fine! We can’t believe this handsome man hasn’t been scooped up yet!

UPDATE 7/8/2018:
Katahdin is an older gentlemen who loves his foster siblings (Kids, Kitties, and K9s). He has been in our rescue for 6 months and is the most perfect boy but nobody has shown any interest in adopting him yet :'( We just discovered that he has a mouth tumor that needs to come out and part of his jaw bone may have to go with it. He's a little nervous about his surgery, but he's most nervous about still not being able to find his forever home after he's had the surgery! He's only 8-years-young and still has plenty of years of love and companionship to share!

My name is Katahdin (like the mountain) but I respond to Todd, dog, goof ball or even if you just sound happy! I'm 8 years old, but don't let that fool you I'm still kicking strong. I go on long walks and sometimes even runs with my foster dad and keep up for the most part! I love love love when people come home and do a little dance with a butt wiggle! All dogs envy me as I have actually caught my tail, and take naps like a professional. I can sit on command, and I've had 0 accidents in the house AND haven't chewed anything! I know if I'm a good boy I'll get more loves and treats so it's a win win. I'm looking for my forever home and can't wait to meet you!

4/18 UPDATE: Katahdin, aka Todd, is still searching for that forever home! He is roughly 8 years old weighing in at about 55 lbs. He is still as handsome and loving as ever and does well with people and other dogs! He is also house trained! He loves going on runs with his foster and has built his endurance up to a whole 2 miles!! He knows his basic commands including "sit" and "shake" and loves catching his treats! This handsome fellow would make a fantastic addition to any home willing to love him and snuggle him!

Please read through our adoption policies and requirements at www.awfpva.org/adoptions prior to requesting an application.

We require all animals in the household to be up to date on core vaccines. Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, canine distemper, and bordetella. Cats must be vaccinated against rabies and feline distemper.

All of our animals are in foster homes. We will schedule meet and greets after approving your adoption application to ensure our fosters are only meeting with serious applicants.
